Yes, I am still alive! So sorry it has been so long since my last post! Since school started, it has pretty much taken over my life! My 4th graders and I are having a wonderful start to the year. We have already had a few speed bumps but nothing we can't handle! :) My dad also sent me flowers on the first day of school..here is a picture of them! So pretty! Thanks Dad...love you :)
I guess the first thing I should write about is Irene. She was a crazy lady, that Irene! I will attach a few pictures but basically, to sum up our first hurricane, I would say she was a bit dangerous. We weren't really sure what to expect with our first hurricane but I think we waited too long to go out and grab our necessities (bread, water, flashlights....). Also, Sam's sister, Sonni, was here visiting that weekend so she also got to experience Irene.
Anyways, it was a long weekend filled with lots of rain and wind. A few people were a bit...ehmmm, silly, with their decisions during Irene. Maybe they should have thought twice before driving down a very, very flooded street...
I should also mention, just a few days before my first hurricane, I experienced my first earthquake. I was sitting in my classroom typing on my computer and everything in my room started shaking. While it wasn't as bas as it could have been, I was still scared! Crazy things happening here in North Carolina!
The most exciting thing I have done in the past couple of weeks is skydiving! We decided to go on a beautiful Saturday. We went over to the Outer Banks (aka Heaven on Earth) and jumped out of an airplane! I wasn't that scared until Emily and I were up in the plane and she jumped out first. The minute I saw her and a second later I didn't see her, I began to FREAK OUT!! I will attach a few pictures. I have a video but it was having problems uploading so you can check it out on Facebook. It's pretty funny! You can see how my instructor basically pushes me out of the plane. The free-fall was a little intense for me but as soon as we opened the parachute, it was the most beautiful experience I have ever seen! And the fact that I got to skydive over the Outer Banks was one of the best experiences I have had so far in my life. Here a few of the pictures but all of them and my video can be found on my Facebook page. If you aren't my friend but want to be, you can find me as Kirstin Jo :)
Lastly, I wanted to share with you a heartfelt experience I had here. Last weekend my roommate, Emily, and I participated in a Walk to Defeat ALS. Sam was supposed to do it with us also but, unfortuetly, she had to work. We drove down to Emerald Isle and could not beleive what we saw. It was an entire community event and the whole town basically shut down for this walk! Emerald Isle is located right along the coast so our walk took us right down the beach! It was beautiful! There were also over 300 marines there to lead off the walk so that wasn't a bad view either! :) It was a wonderful day in memory of Ken! Love and miss you!
I hope everyone has wonderful weekends! I plan on staying in and watching T.V., relaxing and catching up on lesson plans. :) It's a rainy, dreary weekend here so it's perfect for staying in and being lazy.
Until next time...
XoXo
